This January saw a vegan phenomenon as over 20,000 people signed up to veganuary the campaign to encourage people to try vegan diets.<br />

Whilst VegfestUK continues to see record numbers of visitors to VegfestUK events ( over 10,000 to Brighton centre and London Olympia ) with an impressive number of visitors to the very first vegfest in Scotland at the SECC in Glasgow there still remains a dilemma.<br />

The statistics are back for vegfestUK Glasgow and whilst the overall numbers were impressive disappointingly only 8% were meat eaters.<br />
<br />
Campaigners are quick to point out that simply replacing meat with cheese will not make the world a healthier more sustainable more ethical place so it's important to persuade vegetarians to go vegan.<br />
<br />
However if many more meat eaters don't quickly switch onto a wholefood plant based diet chronic health diseases will continue to rise the planet is in dire jeopardy we will run out of water and there is not enough land to waste food feeding it to farm animals instead of feeding it more efficiently to people.<br />

The UK Eat-well Plate as used by NHS, British Heart Foundation, supermarkets, 3663 and health professionals encourages people to eat fatty, sugary foods by advising we should eat small amounts of fatty, sugary foods to have a well balanced and healthy diet.<br />

The 7% high fat and sugary foods that Public Health England's Eatwell Plate advises us to eat is in addition to the predominantly fat rich foods found in the meat (12%) and dairy sections (15%) so that adds up to a worrying advisory 34% of your diet as saturated fat rich foods.<br />
<br />
Worse than that many of the depicted foods in the carbohydrate section, representing an advisory third of your diet's calories , are foods that will quickly be converted to sugar and then triglycerides and stored as fat resulting in a further fat storage burden for your body.<br />

Foods for Life Dairy Free Cheezey topping </h4>
Ingredients<br />
1/2 cup apple sweetened soy milk (hot)<br />
1/2 cup of cold pressed rapeseed oil<br />
1 tablespoon yeast flakes<br />
1 teaspoon of bouillon powder/marmite/ yeast extract<br />
1 teaspoon mustard<br />
1 dessertspoon tomato ketchup<br />
<br />
Method<br />
Heat soy milk until just too hot to touch<br />
Blend with oil using stick blender (not electric whisk)<br />
Whilst still blending add tomato ketchup and mustard until oil and milk emulsify into mayo consistency<br />
Add herbs and other flavouring to taste.<br />
It will thicken a little once cool but if you need it thicker, say for a quiche, or a pie then add some mashed sweet potato or some oat flakes.<br />

In the latest studies released this year scientists have been able to meticulously seperate out the risk factors in a person's diet and lifestyle and pinpoint how much or how little individual factors affect human health.<br />

The results are damning for the meat industry. Major investors are now looking at plant based alternatives that can fulfil the public's demand for foods such as burgers and fried chicken that they've been nurtured to desire.<br />

It seems likely that within a few years the bottom will fall out of factory farmed meat processing and packing industry market as stocks and share prices plummet from fear of litigation.
